چکیده
The process wherein groundwater flowing from mountain bedrock into lowland and adjacent alluvial aquifers, known as mountain-block recharge (MBR), is found across various climatic geological settings. An understanding of the potential flow paths in block systems necessary for comprehending MBR spatial distribution. However, poorly characterized hydraulic properties, especially a lack direct measurements conductivity (K) at depths > 200 m, limit characterization quantifications processes. In this study, we analyze data set, namely 555 in-situ K two borehole sections extending to front disposal site high-level radioactive waste. dataset was categorized groups: one another fault zones, which further classified core K, damage zone general K. Using permeability conceptual model multiple scenarios numerical modelling, study examined processes, mainly focusing on characteristics bedrocks role zones systems. distribution Bedrock supports assumption decreased trend with depth. A logarithmic fit through depth pairs resulted Log(K) = −1.62*Log(z) − 6.52, low predictive power. This illustrated localized effects spatially variable roles within particular hydrogeological configuration Beishan, China. Our results provide insights crystalline Additionally, presented here provides subsurface properties area, facilitates quantification recharge.

Mountain-Block Hydrology and Mountain-Front Recharge
In semiarid climates, a significant component of recharge to basin aquifers occurs along the mountain front. Traditionally called “mountain-front recharge” (MFR), this process has been treated by modelers of basins as a boundary condition. In general, mountain-front recharge estimates are based on the general precipitation characteristics of the mountain (as estimated, e.g., by the chloride mas...

Mountains provide as much as 90-100% of the freshwater to surrounding basins in arid and semiarid regions because of their distinctive and complex topography, and the consequent effects on precipitation (P) and evapotranspiration (ET). One of the primary objectives of this dissertation is to estimate mountain-block recharge (MBR), an important component of the mountain contribution to groundwat...
